As you will probably know by now, the UK parliament voted down Theresa May’s ‘Brexit deal’ by a margin of 432 votes to 202. The largest ever parliamentary defeat suffered by a sitting government. Your morning papers will be full of it, and I have nothing to add to the acres of ‘ifs’, ‘buts’ and ‘maybes’ that will be competing for attention.
My interest is with the big picture. So here are the tweets I sent out after the result was announced, along with a link to a piece I wrote in the FT comments section in January 2016, when it was already clear where things were heading and the role that the mainstream media would play in that - denial and obfuscation.
