"Clinton says sorry for email scandal" - I wonder which ’sorry’ Mrs Clinton is referring to?
‘Sorry’ - Adjective:
1. Feeling sad or distressed through sympathy with someone else's misfortune
2. Feeling regret or penitence for personal actions
3. In a poor or pitiful state; typically unpleasant and regrettable, especially on account of incompetence or misbehaviour
Please note that bookmakers have suspended betting on this conundrum.
Keen observers will also note that the above definitions apply primarily to ‘normal' people. For political oligarchs, and others with an overdeveloped sense of ‘entitlement' there is a fourth version of ‘sorry’:
4. A special code word designed to illicit forgiveness from 'normal people'. Used in defence after being caught out in a nefarious act, it keeps open the opportunity for further nefarious acts at a future date. See ‘fob off’ for further clarification.
